The microphones I use are a pair of Neumann KM-184s. These are mounted in a rack of my own design that is light in weight and places the mics in a V formation. The angle of the mics is very exacting to ensure an even presence or volume across the sound stage.

Just as important as the quality of the microphones is where and how the microphones are placed in the room to capture the performance. The mic stand was modified so the there is almost no place in the room I could not place the mics. Getting the microphones high up in the air, which is my preference, offers a better balance between the performers in the front and those in the rear. It also reduces the audience noise in the recording.
